For the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Elport built BBC Sport's studio and ancillary sets with flexible LED lighting that could shift look and mood in seconds.
When the Commonwealth Games came to Glasgow in 2014, BBC Sport needed a broadcast home that could work as hard as the event itself.
Elport designed and built a series of studio and ancillary area sets for BBC's main Commonwealth Games presentation, created to support a punishing daily schedule of camera positions, set changes, and guest and band introductions without heavy physical rebuilds between shows. The same main presentation set doubled as BBC's breakfast studio throughout the Games, so the design had to look different enough for each broadcast while staying quick and simple to reconfigure.
That flexibility came from the lighting. Elport dmg designed and manufactured the DMX Flex flexible LED strip system built into the set structure, giving production full control over colour and intensity at the touch of a button from both the set rostra and the feature desks.
The result was a broadcast environment that could be transformed for a new segment, guest or time slot in moments, giving BBC Sport a consistent, professional look across two weeks of live, high-pressure sports broadcasting from Glasgow.
