For the London 2012 Olympics at Stratford, Elport built BBC Sport's studio sets with DMX-controlled flexible LED lighting that adapted instantly between camera setups and daily broadcasts.
When the Olympic Games arrived in London in 2012, BBC Sport needed a studio at the heart of the Olympic Park in Stratford that could carry the corporation's coverage for the entire event.
Elport designed and built a series of studio and ancillary area sets for BBC's Olympic Park presentation, engineered to support multiple camera positions and frequent set changes throughout the Games. The same core set served as BBC's main daily presentation set for the duration of the Olympics, so it needed to feel fresh and adaptable broadcast after broadcast rather than static.
The set's flexibility was built into its lighting. Elport dmg designed and manufactured the DMX Flex flexible LED strip system integrated into the structure, giving the production team full control over colour and lighting levels at the touch of a button.
Working within one of the most watched broadcast environments in the world, the result was a set that could be reshaped in mood and tone for each segment, giving BBC Sport a distinctive, dependable presence throughout London 2012.
