For the Rio 2016 Olympics, Elport built BBC Sport's studio set with DMX-controlled flexible LED lighting, ready to switch between camera angles and daily breakfast broadcasts at speed.
For the 2016 Rio Olympics, BBC Sport needed a single studio set capable of carrying both its main Games coverage and its daily breakfast presentation without a heavy production turnaround between the two.
Elport designed and built the studio set used for BBC's Rio Olympic Games broadcasts, engineered to support a range of camera positions and set changes across the busy schedule of a major sporting event. Because the same set doubled as the breakfast presentation studio every morning of the Games, ease and speed of reconfiguration was central to the brief.
As with Elport's other BBC Olympic and Games studio work, the flexibility came from the lighting: a DMX Flex flexible LED strip system, designed and manufactured by Elport dmg, built directly into the set. This gave the production team full command over colour and lighting levels for every element, adjustable at the touch of a button.
The result was a studio that could move fluidly between formats and moods throughout the Rio Games, supporting BBC Sport's coverage from breakfast bulletins through to primetime highlights.
