Elport equipped BBC Sport's main studio and ancillary sets for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games with reconfigurable LED lighting, keeping pace with a packed daily schedule of guests and performances.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow gave BBC Sport one of its busiest broadcast schedules of the year, and it needed studio infrastructure that could keep up. Rather than a single set, the brief covered a series of studio and ancillary area sets used across the main presentation coverage.
The sets had to support changing camera positions and a stream of guest and band introductions throughout each sporting day, all while minimising the physical set changes needed between shows. The main presentation set carried extra weight, doubling as BBC's daily breakfast base for the duration of the Games.
Elport delivered this through its own DMX Flex flexible LED strip lighting product and control system, designed and manufactured in-house and built into the set construction, including the set rostra and feature desks. The fully integrated system let production teams adjust colours and lighting levels at the touch of a button, giving each segment a distinct look without physically altering the set.
The approach meant BBC could move fluidly between studio segments, guest interviews and musical introductions across a demanding multi-week event, with lighting doing the work that would otherwise have required constant set rebuilds.
