Elport's DMX LED lighting powered BBC's presentation set at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London Stadium, the record-breaking athletics event that sold over 660,000 tickets.
The 2017 IAAF World Championships were staged at London Stadium in Stratford, the 60,000-capacity venue built for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The event went on to break records of its own: six days before it began, more than 660,000 tickets had already been sold, surpassing the previous World Championships record of 417,156 set in Berlin in 2009.
Broadcasting a global athletics event of that scale meant BBC needed a presentation set that could run every day of the Championships without losing pace. The set had to support multiple camera positions and regular changes between shows, while also serving as BBC's main presentation base throughout the event.
Elport delivered the lighting design using its own LED DMX Flex flexible LED strip product and control system, designed and manufactured in-house and built into the set. The fully integrated system gave production teams the ability to adjust colours and lighting levels across every element at the touch of a button, supporting the set's day-to-day production needs.
Against the backdrop of a Championships that broke ticketing records, the lighting system helped BBC deliver a consistent, adaptable broadcast presence from inside one of London's most iconic sporting venues.
