A flexible, fully controllable LED lighting system brought the IAAF World Championships 2017 broadcast set at London Stadium to life for record ticket-selling crowds and daily BBC coverage.
The IAAF World Championships 2017 were staged at London Stadium in Stratford — the 60,000-capacity venue built for the 2012 Olympics — in front of record crowds, with more than 660,000 tickets sold six days before the event began, surpassing the previous World Championships record set in Berlin in 2009.
The broadcast set built for the event needed to work hard: it had to support multiple camera positions and set changes, and serve as the BBC's main presentation set every day throughout the championships.
Elport designed and manufactured the lighting system within the set construction, using LED DMX Flex and flexible LED strip product, fully integrated with DMX lighting control. That control system gave the production team the ability to adapt colours and lighting levels across the whole set at the touch of a button, keeping the look fresh across camera angles and each day's coverage.
The result was a lighting system flexible enough to support a major broadcast operation at one of the world's best-known stadiums, helping deliver daily presentation coverage for one of the best-attended athletics championships on record.
