Society of Little Ships / Imagination

To mark the 75th anniversary of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuations — when 338,000 Allied troops were rescued by a flotilla of 715 civilian boats — the Society of Little Ships and creative agency Imagination set out to bring that historic fleet back to the water after dark, visible as one continuous body of light rather than hundreds of separate small boats.

Elport supported Imagination by lighting the entire flotilla with bespoke, high-bright LED light pucks fitted to each of the 715 handmade little ships taking part. Every puck was remote-controlled, letting the fleet be switched on, adjusted and synchronised as a single unit rather than boat by boat — a practical necessity for an event spread across so many individually owned and piloted vessels.

The result was a flotilla that glowed together on the water, giving a contemporary audience a vivid, visible sense of the scale of the original 1940 rescue. It stands as one of Elport's largest simultaneous LED deployments across a distributed, moving fleet, and a distinctive example of bespoke lighting engineering supporting a major piece of national commemorative history.
